The Client’s Challenge
Bring modern thoughtful design to one of the most overlooked parts of the home. This new product category is a natural extension of Caraway’s kitchen ecosystem, bringing intention to every step, from prep to cooking to waste.
Utilitarian everyday products don’t need to be compromised, so we set out to create a trash and recycling system that delivers on design, performance, and flexibility.

We designed the Caraway Trash & Recycling Collection with one common footprint, providing smarter sorting of your home waste, and designed to be seen with five beautiful decor‑driven colors.
The products in the collection are 45L Slim Step Trash Can, 45L Rectangular Step Trash Can, and 45L 2‑Drawer Recycling Bin. These can standalone to fit in a variety of spaces, or combined, supporting people’s varying needs.
All three products have a clean, minimal aesthetic intentionally designed to complement the spaces they live in.
Touchpoints. Inside & Out
Usability is often a pain point with existing trash and recycling products. We saw an opportunity to make every touchpoint designed to remove friction, and reinforce the quality of the Caraway brand.
The quick‑toss top hatch makes recycling an intuitive, swift action.
The system works with any 13 gallon trash bag, no custom liners are required. The inner bags are neatly secured by features designed to clean up the excess bag material for an intentional, elevated experience.

All hinges and drawers were designed from the ground up, so they work smoothly and quietly without any physical or visual noise.
The unified design approach for this Caraway Trash & Recycling Collection was created with an attention to detail and proportions that create the ideal backdrop for the crafted polished stainless steel touchpoints, and the smooth surfaces resist grime and fingerprints.
