The Client's Challenge
Establish Irrigreen as the premium irrigation system of choice by developing a new Controller design that reimagines the experience for homeowners, installers, and gardeners - all in a physical and digital design that is modern, ownable, and scalable.
The Design Approach
Controller 3 was designed from the inside out and the outside in. Irrigreen’s willingness to embrace ground up innovation allowed us to challenge the company to re-architect every aspect of the system layout - all in service of delivering a more intuitive and elevated experience from Install, to Set Up, to Use. The result is a new physical and digital flagship product, establishing Irrigreen as a consumer focused, design forward company.
Digital and Analog Precision
Controller 2 was technology-first created with OTS parts slightly modified to establish the precision irrigation system, knowing the visible PCB board with blinking LEDs left room for improvement.
Controller 3 elevates the UI UX and the Irrigreen brand. The top panel hides seldom accessed elements. The central I/O control area has a beautiful analog dial, 3 buttons for clear interaction hierarchy, and a matrix display that guides you through setup and use. Behind the bottom panel we organized all the wiring elements, making setup a breeze, and the finished install beautifully minimal.

Clarifying Control
The central control panel humanizes the experience, by clarifying interactions and states via a custom designed LED matrix display.
Wiring Order
A linear connector layout improves the wiring experience with ample spacing, clear labeling, and angled connectors for improved usability.

The design approach for Irrigreen 3 Controller is an exercise in precise restraint.
Rather than developing an expressive, tech forward design, we took a different approach. The front hinge panel acts as a protector from the elements and a smart platform for versatility. The final design embraces the linear quality of modern architecture and the diverse range of exterior surfaces, allowing the product to feel integrated with the home and environment.
