Spark
Smart Grill
The Client's Challenge
Firstly, to design a product that looks and performs differently to traditional gas grills, in support of Spark Grill’s proprietary wood and Briq charcoal technology, that delivers precision grilling.
Secondly, to design and engineer this product so it can be shipped direct to consumers, for intuitive self-assembly.
The Strategic Approach
Understanding the user journey of prep - setup - grill - breakdown, guided our approach for developing the Spark grill and accessories.
Full scale prototyping with different product configurations, proportions, and control dial designs, allowed our team and the client to zero in on a preferred approach.
The final solution balances the core functional user needs with the joy of food preparation and grilling.
The Creative Solution
Spark Grills are designed to visually and functionally connect to modern living, and contemporary outdoor spaces.
The Box Clever team strived to create a product that looks considered both in and out of use. In use, all the touchpoints are confident and clear, including the power dial and the top removable tray that supports food prep from the kitchen to the grill to the table.
We designed an open frame architecture that creates zones for loading, unloading, and storing and took inspiration from the design and functionality of bar carts. The design also showcases Spark’s unique Briq cartridge-style technology, integrated centrally with a pan for clean removal and disposal after use.
The Business Impact
Spark Grills started taking pre-orders in May 2020 and began shipping in August 2020.
